Michael Gubbins

Michael has spent his career at the intersection of journalism, consultancy and facilitation.
He was editor of technology journal Computing, film trade Screen International and Music Week after working as a news editor and deputy editor in daily newspapers.
In more than a decade as a creative industry consultant and facilitator, he has organised and moderated more than 500 workshops, think tanks and strategic sessions across the full range of creative businesses.
For seven years he Chaired Ffilm Cymru Wales alongside Pauline, giving him a close understanding of how creative sector governance and public funding decisions are actually made —the room dynamics, the unspoken assumptions, theintersection with different aspects of the sector here and abroad, thebriefs that arrive already half-answered.
Michael became increasingly preoccupied with the question of whygood intentions so often produce disappointing outcomes —and spent time working outside the sector to find better frameworks for understanding it, including cognitive psychology, systems thinking, AI and social research.
